Keeping Good Friends by Debbie Lacy

Often times its so rare to find a really good friend. Someone you can trust, share life experiences, share similiar interest and have a good time with. A friend that will be there through "thick and thin until the end" because now relationships are so very short lived.
A good friend is a cherished possession and if you have an established relationship with a good friend there are some very important things I found that we must do if we want to maintain friendships that can last a lifetime.
Here are some factors of keeping a good relationship with a very good friend.
1) Try to keep secrets or confidential information to yourself. One slip of the tongue (gossip or talking behind your back) can ruin a relationship.
2) Try to forgive one another. We all make mistakes and there is no need to hold a grudge towards one another.
3) Try to stay in touch with one another as much as you can. How many times do we say, "I called her last?"
4) Try to be there for one another when our friends are in need. Be willing to help in every way you can. Remember it's the small things that matter the most.
5) Try to remember birthdays and anniversaries. Even through our friends may get emotional over the surprise of remembering them, it's still good feeling.
6) Try to listen and encourage our friends to follow their hearts.
Friends are far from few, so if you have a good friend cherish every moment.

Hi, dl53acy! GREAT hub. Loved every word. And you are so right in your advice on how to keep good friends. I voted UP and away on this. But I was slightly disappointed..not at your writing, no, I LOVE your writing, why wasn't this hub longer? I was really digging into this and then it was over. LOL! I guess you are not like me...you say more with a few words than I do with 1,000. I am so honored to follow you. YOU are a blessing to me and HubPages. And I invite you to check out my hubs if you need a good laugh. And I also invite you to follow me. That would be GREAT! And please, have a Safe and Happy Merry Christmas! Sincerely, Kenneth Avery, from Hamilton, a small town, (30 minutes from Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis Presley) in northwest Alabama that looks a lot like Mayberry, the little town on the Andy Griffith Show. And do keep up the great work!
